Animation: careers with all the right moves
Animators are responsible for the vivid images we see in video games, movies and television. These talented artists take traditional drawings and computer renderings and turn them into stories with motion and depth, giving storytelling an entirely new dimension.
Animators must be creative of course; a natural ability to draw and create art is necessary, but there are many other facets of the job. Computer graphics play a major role in this career, so being comfortable using multiple software platforms is essential. Being part of a creative team is also likely, so an ability to communicate effectively and work well with others is a needed skill.
The mean annual wage for animators was $63,440 in 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The motion picture and video industries are the top paying in the field, and have the highest employment rates, but other top paying jobs come from working in software and aerospace parts and product manufacturing.
The BLS also notes that jobs in this field should grow about as fast as the average industry, but competition will likely be very high for these highly creative, rewarding positions. Artists with an accredited education, whether from on-campus or online degree programs, should find the greatest career success
