Health information technology degrees are available at a wide range of accredited online colleges and can be completed in two years or less. With the degree, you can work in a hospital or private physician office in the medical records department, and provide crucial support to the other staff.
Organization is key to success
In this field, you are taught how to prepare and organize patient medical records, and make sure that they stay up-to-date and complete. In addition, you may need good communication skills to speak with physicians and ensure accuracy of all records.
This job may require you to work with paper records, or the newer systems of electronic medical records, so computer skills may come in handy.
Growing need for technicians
This field is growing much faster than the average job, according to the BLS and associate degrees are often required.
You can work part time or full time with this position since there is a higher need for employees. The average pay is around $30, 600, with the federal executive branch offering as much as $42,800 for technicians. Doctor's offices pay on the lower end of the scale, but provide a stable work schedule.
