Break into a booming field by becoming a medical assistant
There's no doubt that the medical profession is booming. In December 2009, the BLS ranked medical assistants among the fastest-growing professions in the country. Becoming a medical assistant is a low-cost option--in both time and dollars spent on your education--to get into a prestigious field that's full of opportunities for growth and advancement.
Looking ahead to your future
According to the BLS, the vast majority of medical assistants work in doctors' offices, where they complete clinical and administrative tasks and ensure smooth operation of the office. Medical assistants can specialize in a variety of areas:
- Administrative
- Clinical
- Optometric
- Podiatric
Getting the formal academic education in medical assisting that most employers strongly prefer can be a breeze, as there are a myriad of accredited medical assistance programs around the country, both online and on-campus. Degree programs are offered at vocational-technical high schools, and community and junior colleges.
In general, post-secondary degree programs take a year to complete and graduates are awarded a certificate or diploma, while those students who complete a two-year program receive an associate degree in medical assistance.
During their programs, students take a variety of classes that include anatomy, physiology and medical terminology, as well as transcription, recordkeeping, accounting and insurance processing.
Ready for a career that has real growth potential? Choose your accredited medical assistant program and make your parents proud.
