Clinical Psychology
This specialization focuses on clinical disorders. Many graduates at the doctoral level intend to pursue a license to practice psychology. Most MS graduates are seeking to prepare for doctoral study. The MS & PhD programs offered complement each other. These are rigorous programs that include online coursework, residency and field training experience.
Master of Science in Psychology
Master's learners admitted to clinical psychology typically intend to pursue a doctoral degree. Capella offers a PhD in the area of clinical psychology which complements this MS degree. Some graduates may pursue Master's level licenses as psychological assistants, technicians, etc., and therefore need to be familiar with the license requirements of their state psychology board. However, these learners will not be eligible for the independent practice of psychology, and these Master's degree requirements do not prepare graduates for licensure as psychologists.
PhD in Psychology
One of the fastest growing areas of opportunity for clinical psychologists is providing expert testimony in court. Offering expert testimony requires a thorough understanding of the legal, ethical and professional issues within this area of psychology. Capella University is one of the few doctoral programs offering this area of emphasis.
Pursuing graduate education in this increasingly complex discipline requires careful examination of four factors: 1) your interests, 2) educational opportunities, 3) employment and professional aspirations, and 4) requirements for licensure. Then you must consider how you will integrate high quality education and required residencies into your life. Seem complicated? Not at Capella University. Our programs are designed so you learn through a blend of theoretical principles, research and applied experiences. We accomplish this through a combination of online coursework and dispersed residency.
