Counseling Psychology
The program in Counseling Psychology prepares learners for diverse career paths within our ever-changing pluralistic society. Doctoral graduates of this program intend to seek licensure as a psychologist. In addition to providing counseling services to individuals and groups, graduates will be well-prepared to foster growth and development through work with non-profit organizations or government agencies, to teach at the undergraduate or graduate level and to provide supervision of other mental health professionals.
Master of Science in Psychology
Master's learners admitted to counseling psychology typically intend to pursue a doctoral degree. Some graduates may pursue licenses as psychological assistants, technicians, etc., and therefore need to be familiar with the license requirements of their state psychology board. However, these learners will not be eligible for the independent practice of psychology, and these degree requirements do not prepare graduates for licensure as psychologists or professional counselor.
PhD in Psychology
This degree provide you with comprehensive clinical training, which includes the areas of psychopathology, psychological testing and psychotherapy. Because this area is ultimately designed for state licensure eligibility as a clinical psychologist, it is a very rigorous program that requires coursework, residency and field training experience. This program requires online course, a year in residence, 1000 practicum hours and 2000 internship hours.
Pursuing graduate education in this increasingly complex discipline requires careful examination of four factors: 1) your interests, 2) educational opportunities, 3) employment and professional aspirations, and 4) requirements for licensure. Then you must consider how you will integrate high quality education and required residencies into your life. Seem complicated? Not at Capella University. Our programs are designed so you learn through a blend of theoretical principles, research and applied experiences. We accomplish this through a combination of online coursework and dispersed residency.
