School Psychology
Both a masters degree specialization in school psychology and a specialist certificate in school psychology are offered. Learners will enroll in both these programs if interested in preparing to become a school psychologist.
Master of Science in School Psychology
School Psychology teaches educational psychology principles as they appply to the learning process of children and adolescents. Learners who are interested in preparing to apply for a license or a certificate to practice as a school psychologist will enroll in the Master's and Specialist Certificate in School Psychology. Because this area is designed for licensure eligibility, it is a very rigorous program that requires course work, residency and field training experiences. Master's plus Specialist certificate programs require 24 courses, 600 practicum hours, 1200 internship hours and a year in residency.
Pursuing graduate education in this increasingly complex discipline requires careful examination of four factors: 1) your interests, 2) educational opportunities, 3) employment and professional aspirations, and 4) requirements for licensure. Then you must consider how you will integrate high quality education and required residencies into your life. Seem complicated? Not at Capella University. Our programs are designed so you learn through a blend of theoretical principles, research and applied experiences. We accomplish this through a combination of online coursework and dispersed residency.
